Often I hear, “What does Land Back mean?”, “Does Land Back mean giving all the land back to the Native Americans?” “Can I wear this shirt even if I’m not Indigenous?”
To me the concept of Land Back not only includes respect for Indigenous practices and stewardship of the land but to also defer to Indigenous people’s as the authority for best practices in regards to what is best for the land and land stewardship. That can mean return of actual land to Tribes, it can mean deferral to Native peoples as the original habitants, it can also mean making sure that Indigenous people have a seat at all tables. “Land Back can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people and those are just a few examples, but in general if you support Indigenous sovereignty then you also support the concept of “Land Back”. And yes, you can wear the shirt even if you are non-Indigenous, in fact it is encouraged.
