Agnes Vanderburg was a Salish woman from the Flathead Reservation, who seeing a need for continuation of traditional Salish culture and language started Culture Camp in the 1970’s, preceding the date for passing of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act. At this camp Agnes taught traditional skills and practices that had been in affect since time immemorial. This included but was not limited to traditional games, gathering food stuffs, baking camas, tanning hides, etc. Today the Culture Camp continues for youth from the Flathead Reservation.
